Stadium Access Update

27 July 2026

Since our last update in May (when supporters were invited to complete a survey on the proposed final design of the A9/A904 road network outside the Stadium) we have continued to meet regularly with Falkirk Council to press the case for safer routes to and from the Stadium, both while the improvement works are ongoing and once the project is complete.

The survey responses reinforced our view that additional measures should be considered on matchdays, when thousands of supporters will be crossing what will become a dual carriageway. Respondents clearly demonstrated their concerns and suggested a range of measures that could improve pedestrian safety, including a flyover or footbridge, additional signalised pedestrian crossings, and/or temporary road closures.

While discussions with the Council have been constructive, they have remained firm in their position and, at this stage, we have been unable to secure the type of significant improvements identified above. As we consider our next steps, we wanted to provide supporters with the latest information so everyone is better informed ahead of the start of the league season.

The project remains on schedule for completion in Spring 2027, with sections of the new road and footway network opening to the public as they are finished. We have also been advised that the recent flooding at The Helix is unrelated to the project and will have no impact on the construction timetable.

From the start of League Season 2026/27 (1 August) fans will be able to walk between Forth Valley College and the Stadium using parts of the new footway network directly adjacent to A904 and can access the Stadium site via a new footpath link close to Westfield roundabout. The route between Alexander Avenue and Fire Station will also remain available. Vehicular access to the Stadium from A904 will be open for each home game from 1 August although may be closed temporarily on non-match days.

The new traffic signals at Westfield Roundabout are currently scheduled to be installed in late 2026. The temporary HERAS fencing between the Stadium Roundabout and Westfield Roundabout (on the Stadium side of the A9) will also be replaced with permanent fencing and hedging, encouraging pedestrians to use the designated crossing points.

While we continue to have concerns related to the uncontrolled crossing points at the Stadium/Fire Station roundabout and the A9 railway bridge, the pressures on these should ease once the works are complete. The Council were not prepared to agree to the installation of pedestrian lights at either of these points at this stage. They will however be carrying out a further pedestrian survey on completion of the works (exact date TBC) to assess whether further improvements are merited.

The Council have been at pains to emphasise that, in it’s view, the works carried out under this project will make a significant improvement to previous road/footpath layouts.

The Falkirk Supporters Society Board will discuss the position further at its next meeting in early August before deciding on any next steps. In the meantime, we would welcome your views on the above. If you have any comments or feedback, please get in touch at admin@falkirksupporters.org.
